Over the weekend I read Renee
Burrows featured post What is
a Blog? How Do I Blog? What if They Don't Like Me? and those were the questions
that ran through my head when I first stumbled upon ActiveRain.
I'm always up for trying
new things, so I signed up for my FREE ActiveRain account
and started blogging. For the first month or so I wrote about a million
different things trying to find my "niche," everyone needs a "niche"
right? Well, for me that niche became communities and that's what I
wrote about for WEEKS straight.
I rarely received comments
on my community posts, but I didn't care because I was
blogging for business, not for comments. However one day I received an
interesting e-mail from another member giving me advice on how to
create a more "rounded blog," one that showcases not only the
communities in my area, but also events, places to visit, questions I'm
asked, market reports along with my interests. The suggestions were
very similar to Renee's List.
So I quickly started
rounding out my blog and continued to write about
communities, BUT also homes for sale, homes for rent, questions I'm
asked, experiences I've had, upcoming events, places around town along
with my family. Heck, I've even taken it a step further and
incorporated my son into my blogging who now has has his
own series on my website WalkWellington.com.
Have I blogged about the
same exact topic as other real estate agents near or far?
Absolutely, I'm sure the definition of "escrow deposit" has been posted
more than once, but I'm writing for MY audience. Really, what
are the odds of writing the same exact words as somone else or picking
the same exact title for your post? Unless someone is copying and
pasting it will never happen, which I've had the content taken from my
website more than once.
So who cares if a topic
has been written about 1,000 times, make it 1,001! Blog
from the heart and blog for your audience.
