Back in August I participated in one of Bob Stewart's Challenges and wrote: Florida's Blood Centers - Save a life in less than an hour while watching TV!
I wrote this blog hoping it would encourage people to donate blood. Little did I know that Florida Blood Center's would find my blog and contact me.
When I received their call I assumed they were giving me a friendly reminder that I was eligible to donate blood, but that was not the case. The Florida Blood Center called because they read my blog on ActiveRain and wanted me to do a "Hero Story," which consisted of a short interview on camera explaining why I donate blood.
I immediately thanked them for calling, but let them know I don't have a great story of why I donate blood. My reason for donating blood is simple, it's an easy way to give back, which doesn't sound like much of a story to me.
I have a fear of camera's and was reluctant to do the interview, but it's for an excellent cause and I could not say no. So now I have until Thursday to set aside my fear and tell my "Hero Story."

You can do it and what a great story of the effectiveness of ActiveRain on our community!
Michele, I think many people would be more afraid of donating blood than the interview. But interviews can be scary. Just remember that the interview is just one more way to give back and I'm certain that you will do a fantastic job. I think giving back as a reason for donating blood may sound simple as you said, but it really is much more than that. It is an awareness of the needs of all the community. It is the fact that the community is important to you and this is one of the opportunities to help that community. By the way, your post has inspired me to donate blood again soon.
Laxson - Thank You for commenting
Gary - I agree, more people are more afriad of donating blood. I've never liked having my picture taken or being on camera, but when it comes to a good cause I couldn't say no. Thanks for commenting and I'm glad to hear you're going to donate blood soon!
Michelle - what a wonderful story! I'm with you on the fear of cameras. I've had many opportunities this past year, but can't seem to get over my fear, so I've turn down each opportunity. Don't be like me! LOL Get out there and give your story. I'm sure you'll do great!
Lina - I wonder what our problem is? Looking back at the conversation I was trying to talk them out of it, but the more I talked the more interested they seemed. I've thought about canceling, but I keep reminding myself that it's for a could cause and it won't hurt.
Great job on the post, I'm sure you'll do great on your interview. You will be setting a good example!
Michelle ~ Donating blood is a great way to give back to your community. I am sure you have saved more than one life by doing so!
Your posts are always well written I am not surprised the blood bank wanted you to do an interview with them! Nice work.
